The 36 Human Design Channels
Explore all 36 Human Design channels — their circuits, gates, themes, and how they shape your energy and relationships.
What are the 36 channels in Human Design?
A channel is a connection between two centers, formed when both gates at either end are activated in your chart. Channels are what create definition: a defined center is only defined because a channel runs into it. There are 36 channels in the bodygraph, and each one is a consistent, reliable theme in your life — something you can depend on and that other people feel from you.
Channels belong to circuits. Individual circuitry is about mutation and empowering others by being different. Tribal circuitry is about support, resources, and taking care of the people close to you. Collective circuitry is about sharing patterns and experiences with everyone, through logic or through abstraction.
How to read a channel
- Both gates must be activated for the channel to be defined; a single gate is a half-channel that seeks its partner in other people.
- A defined channel is a fixed, lifelong theme you cannot turn off.
- The circuit tells you the purpose of the theme: individual (mutative), tribal (supportive) or collective (shared).
- Channels that connect a motor to the Throat give you manifesting capacity.
- Channels running into the Sacral or Solar Plexus shape your authority.
